But God.

I’ve heard people say before that in a matter of seconds your life can be changed forever. I never really understood the meaning of that phrase and just how much it would resonate in my life. Last year I was lost , I was broken, I was addicted. I walked away from my husband, my children, my church and most importantly I walked away from God. I felt unworthy because I struggled with my past and thought everyone was better off without me.
I left everything to run the streets with another man and get high. I thought we were in love, but I would soon realize our love was heroin. Being dope sick controlled my life, and heroin became my idol.
One evening tragedy struck our lives. We were in a really bad car accident. I was driving and he was the passenger. He passed away and I was charged with his death.
While I was in jail God found me in my broken mess as I grieved and I knew I was there for a reason. I was facing years in prison and I was scared. God taught me to trust him, have faith, and know that he always keeps his promises.
He gave me peace in an unstable situation.
I realized that no matter what, God has always had my back and that He is bigger than all of this. He was in control and I had no problem giving him all my worries. I would raise my hands in reverence to Him and break free from all my chains.
God restored my marriage and my relationships with all my children. When no one thought I would be freed from prison God knew He had plans that would create a beautiful testimony. My family and I have struggled in the months since I was released back into society, but blessings have been abundant - God has provided for us financially with jobs as we wrestled with homelessness and made a way for us to have a home. The last year of my life was a storm like no other I’ve ever experienced, but I am truly grateful because God carried me through it and my story isn’t over yet.
I was an addict, But God delivered me.
I was lost, But God found me.
I was distracted, But God got my attention.
I was selfish, But God made me humble.
I was broken to pieces, But God put me back together.
I was lonely, But God restored my family.
I was a prisoner, But God gave me freedom.
