A Mother’s Prayers
I cried myself to sleep last night.
As a mother of older children this seems to be more of me these days. I think as a mother we just want our children to be ok. No matter how old they get, we just want them to be safe, happy, and loved.
But last night, my heart broke. It broke because my daughter told me some news about recent troubles she had. She is over 18 now and thinks she knows everything, but it’s hard for me because now I feel I know nothing about her. Over this past weekend she was in an accident, she wasn’t badly injured, but she walked away with a scrap on her chest from her seatbelt. Nothing more was wrong, which is why I wasn’t made aware.
I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful that she only had a scrap, but it was in those moments that I realized I could have lost her. She told me she almost didn’t put her seatbelt on, but then remembered how I always stress her about that. She told me, God saved her.
She would have never told me either, but I noticed the mark and asked her what happened. When she told me what happened, I immediately broke down. She saw the hurt in my eyes and that changed something in her. Later that night she came to me and hugged me. She told me that she was sorry for not telling me. We held each other for a moment, something we haven’t done for a long time.
Even after that moment I still cried myself to sleep. I cried out in prayer that God would not let the enemy destroy my children. I prayed he would take me instead if it ever came down to it. I thanked God for saving her and asked God to please, please help my daughter.
Now it’s morning and my eyes are swollen from crying. I spent most of this morning with a box of tissues. Of course I’m thankful that God saved her. I’m more thankful that she acknowledges it. So going forward from today, I pray that this moment she had, does saves her soul. I pray God uses this moment to change the trajectory of what is to happen in her life. I pray God uses this awakening in her heart and guides her from darkness into light.
