Be like Jesus
I think I learned early on that I can’t really rely on anyone and that I needed to learn how to take care of myself.
Life hasn’t been easy for me, at all. Most of the people that have said they loved me have hurt me in some sort of way. Some more than others, but regardless of who or how much, it still hurt.
Some hurt me so bad it has taken me years to get past it. Learning to forgive others even when you don’t think they deserve it can be one of the hardest things you ever have to do. Especially if they never change or even asked you to forgive them.
Thats when it gets tricky, because the initial forgiveness is so you can move on, not so they can. One day the person who hurt you might actually feel sorry, but that could also be a reality you might never see. So this is where God comes in. He teaches us about forgiveness and he has done that through Jesus.
One thing I’ve always told my kids since they were young, is that this world doesn’t care about you and you need to learn to take care of yourself. I wasn’t saying that to be mean, but to be a warning and hopefully a whisper in their ear when things get hard. I can say it as a true statement because I’ve personally experienced this feeling of loneliness that has deterred my healing journey and I’m sure many others have felt the same way.
Why? Because not everyone has it easy. Most of us have to work really hard to get no where sometimes, if that makes sense. Some people don’t have supportive people in their lives and unless people develop a close relationship with you, they probably won’t care about you or what happens anyway. It’s a sad reality, but truth for most.
Now let’s go back to the world not really caring statement, and when I say that I mean people, because most people are more worried about how they feel or how certain situations might affect them. This isn’t to say boundaries aren’t good, but when did we stop caring or praying for those who need support?
Once we as hurt individuals learn to overcome the initial sting of being abandoned, we need to remember to forgive. We need to learn to forgive people we know and people we don’t, regardless of what we think they did or said. Truth be told we never know what they are dealing with, that might have caused them to hurt us in the first place.
Sounds hard right? Well we need to do this for our own saving grace, because one it will make us sick and two because we need to learn to be more empathetic towards others. By doing this, we might start to change their hearts. Showing love to someone when others might deem it as unnecessary, can change that hardened person from the inside out.
So, In a world full of hatred, let’s strive to be more like the one who has forgiven everyone; Jesus!
